The Ball is About to Drop...
Hmmmm. Now that I've typed the title of this entry, it occurs to me that I have already dropped the ball, as I've been lazing about since December 14th. I've been really, really busy, and we've been travelling a lot, plus as the parent of a 2-yr old and the husband of a pregnant woman, I've got both the energy and the mental acumen of a rapidly decaying goldfish. So, there you go. But what I was referring to is that the baby is due soon-- according to medical professionals, around Feb 17th. We're told this is going to be a big little girl, around 9 lbs, so I'm pretty sure the Mrs won't go late if she even makes it top her due date. She's pretty dead set against a C-section unless there is a danger to the baby (I think her exact words to the doctor were "You cut me....I'll cut YOU.") which is pretty cool. I have to give the wife credit-- the thought of even SEEING the birth process of a big baby makes my testicles sprint north to choke my optical nerves-- I can't imagine actually doing it. But I digress...oh, and honey, if you're reading this, I'm sure it'll be eeeeeeeeeasy.
So anyway, we're at the point of having to go to the doctor every week. Apparently it takes a trained medical professional to bend over and say "Nope. Still not a baby hangin' outta your hoo-hoo." But it's a nice excuse to leave work early, so I'm happy. Unfortunately, as late as she is in the process, her body is starting to revolt. Mainly, she's having a fair amount of leg pain, and trouble riding or sitting for extended periods of time. But at least this time she's sleeping better than when she was pregnant with Aidan.
The baby herself seems to be doing well-- every once in awhile we'll see something move under the surface of her belly, as though the future princess is playing Jaws in there. Aidan is pretty excited; he has been telling us that he "likes baby sister" , and showing me things that he's going to give her.
While I'm at it, there are a few Aidan updates as well. First and foremost is his newfound love of rock guitar, or as he calls it "loud 'tar". He makes me play almost every night, and he knows that I have to "daddy tune it" before we can play. He has a little electronic one he plays too, and I have to say his is a little cooler looking than mine are. He's also begun singing songs, and seems to be ever-ready to burst into verse. His current repertoire includes such children's classics as:
Aidan has also begun reading along with us during story-time-- his current favorite book is "Not the Hippootamus", a book I actually find pretty amusing as well. He's also a big fan of "The Hungry Caterpillar" and " Goodnight Moon", all of which he'll mutter along with.
In addition, he's becoming interested in video games-- he's tried playing Guitar Hero (which is pretty hilarious because the guitar actually looks like it's the right size on him) but seems to be better with simpler ones like Mario Galaxy. Or as he calls it "the Mario game". In fact, for the last week, he has been demanding that we play the Mario game while he helps (because it is actually a 2-player game, with the second person acting as a safety net, basically). Yeah, that's right-- my 2yr old knows who Mario is, and can clearly pronounce his name. I have trained him well-- you're welcome, Nintendo.
Well, that's about it-- look for weekly updates from here on out, since we're almost at launch time. I promise to be better about updating... I keep letting stupid things like "work" and "responsibility" get in the way, but no more! Besides, I have more important things to do...after all, I only have about 14 years to cultivate some really good crazy behavior to keep the boys away from my daughter. More importantly l only have about 2 weeks to figure out what I'm going to do the first time my little girl gets poopy in her jay-jay. I suspect I will be terrified, but hold it together enough to be able to walk to my wife, holding the baby upside down by the ankle, and proclaim "You better take care of this, I'm an outtie."
God, I am going to be paying for so much therapy 20 years from now....
